ABOUT
We are The Pits Planet Earth.
An Art Rock/Power Pop group consisting of 3 part vocals, driving bass, melodic guitar, spacey synth and epic drums. It is a high energy, uplifting, and thought provoking project that includes tales of space, love, tragedy and the faults of humanity.
With theatrical performance, moving melodies, and powerful anthems, The Pits Planet Earth is destined for big stages. If Arcade Fire, The Killers, Mother Mother, Death Cab for Cutie, The Mars Volta and The Flaming Lips fell into a giant's blender...
the uniquely delicious smoothie created would be The Pits Planet Earth.
There is an undeniable energy that surrounds The Pits Planet Earth. Being a band for just under 3 years, The Pits has annihilated a plethora of goals incuding:
- self recording and releasing their 10 track debut album (Future Selves) (June 8 2019)
- independently booking and completed extensive Western Canadian tours (and organizing new ones in 2020)
- building audience in western canada
- releasing 3 self produced music videos, (using art/puppets/computer art)
- playing K-Days (edmonton)
- working together to buy our tour van (marigold) ❤
One of our proudest ongoing acheivements is the yearly “Intergalactic formal”, a space themed and decorated event where we invite bands from other cities to play..people are encouraged to dress in costume, express themselves, and share their art. The Pits Planet Earth plans to inspire and move people in every corner of the world. They strive to make each show a spectacle, and share the experience with all who will listen.
Formed in late 2016 in Red Deer (Alberta), the band finally came together after a long search for the perfect concoction of musicians.
Before the new project, Travis (singer and writer in Dusty Tucker) had released albums and EP's and toured with the likes of Cancer Bats, Maylene and The Sons of Disaster, Monster Truck and Norma Jean. Rebecca had been working on her solo project where she had accomplished things like opening for Marianas Trench, moving on her own to Toronto at 19, and had a song featured on TV show "Rookie Blue" as well as on an independent film on Netflix. Almost by fate, the two came together and started writing songs for their new project, which they relentlessly searched for the right humans with a shared passion for the craft.
All the members are hard working band mates, close friends, and veterans in performance. Jamie has toured the world with a choir group and has a degree in vocal, Tyler has played in countless bands and is a master of multiple instruments, and Aaron is the best bass player ever (as well as a wicked illustrator).
Recently The Pits had a bassist switch from Spencer Sieben (who played on the album and edited many of the video projects), to Aaron Edzerza.
The current lineup is:
Travis James (vocals), Rebecca Raabis (vocals/guitar/synth), Jamie Jones (synth/Vocals), Aaron Edzerza (Bass), and Tyler Mckinney (Drums)
